Police investigating shooting at Legacy High School in South Gate

SOUTH GATE, Calif. (KABC) — Police are investigating a shooting that unfolded Thursday night at a high school in South Gate.

According to authorities, it happened around 9:42 p.m. at the Legacy High School campus on Tweedy Boulevard.

Students were celebrating Senior Night during Legacy’s football game against South East. The game ended shortly before shots were fired.

It’s unclear what prompted the shooting but officers reportedly shot at the suspect. It’s unclear if the suspect was injured but police say the person is not in custody. It appears a crash occurred near the scene as well, though it’s unclear if the collision is connected to the shooting.

The Los Angeles School Police Department along with South Gate PD are on the scene conducting their investigation.

No injuries involving students, parents or staff have been reported. AIR7 HD captured the moment a group of students were released from a campus building. You can see a woman hugging a student as they walked out.
